steveinsocal "...The album is arguably one of this year's most beguiling releases and certainly one of the more challenging, but conversely the most enjoyable to review... is "Star Dust" lo-fi, indie, psychedelic, folk (or psychedelia-folk, as I read somewhere) or all - or indeed, none - of the above? Frankly, when an album sounds this good, who cares?"

Warrior 05:28
the years are changing our places we're somewhere different than before the years are changing our faces our youth may now be worn everyone's afraid of growing old our faces are slates where stories should be told everyone's afraid of growing old our faces are slates where stories should be told are you a warrior? are you a warrior? i tried to warn her warrior heart, we are all warriors with a leg of a bow and a foot of an arrow i balance on scales of increase and decline and I refuse to let my arrows go You should not let your arrows go they tried to fit a circle inside of a square the matriarch turned to the patriarch and said I don't even care it's a psychic, psychic war all the time it's hard to get outside of your mind a psychic, psychic war all the time it's hard to get outside of your mind are you a warrior? are you a warrior? i tried to warn her warrior heart, we are all warriors with a leg of a bow and a foot of an arrow i balance on scales of increase and decline and I refuse to let my arrows go You should not let your arrows go the years are changing our places we're somewhere different than before the years are changing our faces my youth will not be worn

Daddy's Gone 03:58
daddy's gone, here I come like a freight train or a loaded gun it doesn't matter if you lock your doors it doesn't matter if you don't want more you shouldn't have let me in women wait by the windows waiting for their loves to call but me I aint gonna sit by no window waiting for the glass to crack, crack no I would just have to break it tied up this thing like it was made of string and I don't catch moonbeams anymore and it's not like you can just by them in the store no it's not like you can just buy them in the store daddy's gone, here I come like a freight train, or a loaded gun but me I will not pull no trigger I've seen enough lives split in two
4.
Crystal 04:41
carrying a crystal in your pocket falling asleep I almost forgot it old nursery rhymes trapped in a locket falling asleep I almost forgot it many faces of the stone were playing games with the sun and all of your magic cannot change what has already been done because it's already been done you gave me your grandma's old locket we should anchor the ship or else we'll have to dock it you taught me the ways of the tides and the breeze now that knowledge lives inside of me many faces of the stone were playing games with the sun and all of your magic cannot change what has already been done because it's already been done all the sailors lost their guide when the light house stopped shining it's light all the sailors in the summertime had to find a new guide on waves that electrify carrying a crystal in your pocket falling asleep I almost forgot it old nursery rhymes trapped in a locket falling asleep I almost forgot it

Sunflowers 04:22
the flowers you pick and the people you miss each petal pulled is a confirmation or a denial or a denial whisper secrets into tangled hair glitter eyes blinking mystery all seeing I see I can't stop thinking about sunflowers they line the streets in my dreams and grow taller than me you roll your R's and I'll try to whistle no sound can come between me and my front teeth give back the keys before we get in trouble a circus tent and you're smoking in bed and all the walls are red I can't stop thinking about sunflowers they line the streets in my dreams and grow taller than me they are taller than me standing in the blackberry bushes thorns cutting my clothes woke up in the afternoon with colors on my palms did you know that lines are stories being told? you were meant to swim up stream north is south east is west you'll be bent but don't be bent fighting the current you were meant to swim upstream north is south, east is west you'll be bent but don't be bent fighting the current I can't stop thinking about sunflowers they line the streets in my dreams and grow taller than me

Casino Song 05:32
Lyrics: when we were children we were running over history & all that stuck to our feet was dirt we planted a seed and we thought it would grow but they didn't tell us didn't want us to know the power that was in our hands the true story of the land where the coyote used to howl & where the snake once bit the sky there is a city that won't surrender to night time take all the stars from the sky & create constellations with the street lights there is a city that won't (will not) surrender to night time it calls you from your bedroom you always want more bet bet bet some more lets throw away everything we've worked for they planted a seed and we watched it grow shiny slot machines in rows the kind that nobody has to nobody has to water they grow bigger and stronger on the history of slaughter the land so rightfully ours was someone else's before but we gave them such a special place take all the stars from the sky & create constellations with the street lights there is a city that won't WILL NOT surrender to night time beep beep beep beep go the machines you always think I'm being mean beep beep beep beep go the machines when we were children we were running over history & all that stuck to my feet was dirt all that stuck to my skin was a sunburn
8.
Presence 03:15
light leaks in from the corner of the room it softens itself against the pale pink walls your voice is a chamber of echoes, echoes always waking me up you crept into my sheets ride a roller coaster into the sea all things in-between you are cutting wooden blocks shaping cylinder tubes and I believe your presence makes the world brand new we can take it anyway but i've learned enough to just take it today it's true that if you run that you may fall but if you never try you'll never fly at all i have written a story on the inside of my eyes it gets so hard to keep it open all the time blink blink blink it makes me think think think blink blink blink it makes me think think think all these thoughts go back to the root you trace the scales in musical proof all these words go back to the root and all these thoughts are only the truth that I believe your presence I believe your presence I believe your presence makes the world brand new

Time Warp 04:18
doing the time warp of some sort you left me in a foreign land now I keep on trying to come up with another plan when you salt the shaker, do you see falling snow? and could ground up peppers be ashes from below? but I have stopped debating if I have seen the light it glowed it grew it got bigger and I've only been inside for such a little while I was only a child younger bones with older homes candy coated chaos I constantly crave & it's sugar coated so that I think its okay to tear off the wrappings and devour it down there's something inside of me that won't allow for stillness of sound but I have stopped debating if I have seen the light not on the wall with a light switch i've only been inside for such a little while I was only a child younger bones with older homes where am I going? where am I going where am I going to go? where am I going? where am I going? where am I going to go? to go? where am I going? where am I going? where am I going to go? doing the time warp of some sort you left me in a foreign land now I keep on trying to come up with another plan

Witch House 04:33
all hands on the clocked stopped a quarter past midnight owls woke to tell the time to all of those who listen; Listen! music spins inside of atoms blocked under a microscope a math equation at the train station shadows gave way to illumination the sum of a situation subtract me from your obligations sleeping saints, indecent states sip by sip drink the lemonade on top of a ladder, under the mango tree a shadow of a man she could not have believed but music spins inside of atoms blocked under a microscope a math equation at the train station shadows gave way to illumination the sum of a situation subtract me from your obligations at night i slept in black widow rooms clean your halls with flying broomsticks which house is your house? the one with the black painted door which house is your house? the one with the black painted door i heard no one lives there anymore i heard no one lives there anymore a math equation at the train station shadows gave way to illumination the sum of a situation when i met her at the crossroads and where all souls do go on and on and on which house is your house? witch house is my house which house is your house? witch house is my house

constant is the calling, constant is the crying constant is the calling, constant is the crying you just wanted to name your children after beautiful things to remind them, to remind them now people name their children after your children to remind them to remind them of constant is the calling, constant is the crying do you hear the calling? do you hear the crying? through the pines in the trees leaves that go from gold to green laughs that go from young to old all of the stories that i've been told i see you, i could see you but you just wanted to name your children after beautiful things to remind them, to remind them now people name their children after your children to remind them to remind them when I love I feel rivers in my wrist is that odd? is that strange? is that odd? is that sane? that you just wanted to name your children after beautiful things to remind them

about

Released by: Gazelle Recordings

Star Dust was recorded in many different houses across the United States. It began when I started touring with Foxygen in 2012. From Los Angeles, to Olympia, Washington to Woodstock, Connecticut. This was a project that aimed for other galaxies but exploded into Star Dust along the way. I started the project in a shed with a tape machine in Woodstock Connecticut, continued recording in Olympia Washington, & finished it in Los Angeles, Calfiornia This album is dedicated to Maia Hisamoto, who sat in the living room with us brainstorming this album. She died suddenly a week before her 24th birthday of the flu while I was on tour. Maia was not only my best friend but my biggest fan. She believed in me and this album more than anyone involved with it.

Thank You to: my family (including 4 legged friends), everyone at The Guest House, Gazelle Recordings, “ The Dave’s in Connecticut” Dave Person, Dave Sullivan, The Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, Connecticut, Augustus Green, Eliel Fionn, Jacqueline Caruso, Jeffrey Vaughn, Michael Miller, Lindsy Carmen, Robyn Crawford, Alex River, Teo Castillion ,my friends, and everyone who has supported me along the way. infinite love.
